Retrospective Log Viewer & Analyzer

FAQ

Q. Where does Retrospective come from?

A. From our team that was responsible for supporting the Tibco middleware application at the largest Telecoms company in Switzerland - they needed a tool to help analyse production issues over  45,000 logs totalling 2Tb on 10 different servers and there were no reasonably priced and easy to use products available to help us (and there still aren’t ... other than Retrospective! :) )

Q.  My search stopped prematurely with too little data and with a warning that a limit had been reached and to refine my search. How can I increase the amount of data collected?

A. Change the settings in the retrospective.ini file (Xmx256M to Xmx1024M and  DLargeDataLimitInMB=10 to DLargeDataLimitInMB=30, or whatever but don’t overdo it..)

Q. Do I need to install a JRE first

A. Well, you need a Java Runtime Environment (JRE) somehow. If you download Retrospective with a bundled JRE, then you do not have to worry about that as it is included in your download. If you download Retrospective without a bundled JRE, you should check first, if you have a suitable JRE on your system by entering “java –version” in a cmd window to see if you have at least version 6. As of Retrospective 3.3.0 you will need version 7. If there is no JRE installed on your system you can download it from oracle

Q. How does your upgrade policy work?

A. You get one year’s worth of upgrades (functionality and bug fixes) for free with your first year’s subscription. After that, you can continue the upgrade programme with a 30% discounted price which includes upgrades and support .
